- Unit History
Pack 781 was a part of Pack 780 based out of Meadowview Elementary School until the pack grew too large. We split off and became our own pack and have been growing strong ever since. In September of 2021, Pack 780 merged into Pack 781.
- What schools / grades do you serve?
We serve Soaring Hawk Elementary, Clear Sky Elementary, Academy Charter School, Meadowview Elementary in Castle Rock and Timber Trail and Buffalo Ridge in Castle Pines. Any boys or girls who are going into Kindergarten thru 5th grade, can join upon their first day. We serve grades all the way up to 5th grade, when boys or girls will earn their Arrow of Light and cross over into Boy Scouts.
- # of members
Pack 781 currently, going into Recharter 2024, has 65 boys and girls, 17 leaders, which includes both committee and den leaders.
- What makes your unit unique?
Our unit is very active in the community. We participate in our Charter Organization's (New Hope Presbyterian Church) events in our neighborhood, and we do other community events in our not so small town. We have excellent leadership, who are well trained, because we feel that every boy or girl deserves a quality, trained leader. Leaders cannot hold any leadership role until background checks and Youth Protection Training (YPT) is completed.
We wear full uniforms whenever possible (shirt, neckerchief, woggle/slide, hat, pants, belt) - We encourage the boys to wear their uniforms with pride, and have a sense of ownership in the pack.
Each pack meeting involves the boys in some way to reinforce the pride and ownership. Each den is responsible for helping to plan a Pack meeting (except the Lions and Tigers). The Wolves help with the Pinewood Derby, the Bears help with the Blue and Gold Banquet, the Webelos help with the camp-out and the AOL help with the camp-in.
- What is your big annual event?
We have a few big annual events. We do a Raingutter Regatta in September and in December, we have our Camp-In event. We do Pinewood Derby every January, then we have our Blue and Gold banquet in February where we celebrate the creation of scouting and advance our youth leaders, the AoL's, to Boy Scouts. In April we have an advancement ceremony where the rest of the scouts, Lions to Webelos, who completed the requirements, will graduate up to the new rank. In May, we have our annual *Rocket Blast. In June, we have our Annual Campout where we do various outdoor activities and have a campfire. We also have Summer Camp and the annual parade.
We like to do summertime activities as well such as Camping, the Douglas County Fair Parade, Den hikes, etc...
- How are you involved in the community?
We assist our Charter Organization, New Hope Presbyterian Church, with activities that they might need assistance, such as the Memorial Day Service, etc. We also have participated in the Town's Clean up the Creek event, and have adopted Paintbrush Park for regular cleanup.
- How are parents involved in your Pack?
We ask the parents to find the "one thing" that they can do to help, and do that. If they are good at organizing events, we ask that they help out with Blue and Gold. We communicate openly and honestly with all of the parents at each Pack Meeting to share with them the "State of the Unit" on a regular basis. We are not afraid to ask for help, and be open and honest with our parents. They are, after all, the stakeholders of our organization. Many hands makes light work.
